The WOCE Scientific Steering Group (SSG)
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Calling upon the international scientific and technical oceanographic communities for assistance, the WOCE Scientific Steering Group should:
- Provide overall scientific guidance to ensure that WOCE progresses towards achieving its scientific objectives using individual experts or expert groups as necessary;
- Ensure that WOCE activities contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the WCRP and through its Co-chairs appraise the WCRP JSC of the project's status;
- Provide oversight of and guidance to WOCE scientific committees and working groups;
- Use existing, or where necessary propose, mechanisms for assuring the exchange and analysis of the WOCE data, and the dissemination of scientific results;
- Develop and implement, in consultation with the CLIVAR Scientific Steering Group, an effective transition of remaining WOCE scientific activities and infrastructure to CLIVAR as WOCE approaches its end;
- Provide oversight of and guidance to the WOCE International Project Office and its Director.
