WOCE-Profiling Float Data This collection was compiled by the Marine Environmental Data Service of Canada
Version 3.0: August 2002
The collection contains ocean temperature and salinity data measured by profiling floats. The data have been contributed by a number of researchers. The data have undergone whatever data quality checks are carried out by the originator only. None of the data have passed through standardized procedures. Users are cautioned to keep this in mind when using the data.
Overview: A brief discussion of the composition of the data collection and some general issues regarding the data.
Data Files and Summaries: The temperature or temperature and salinity profiles collected by the floats. The data are grouped by researcher. The files are written in netCDF and in the same format as the profile data in the WOCE UOT collection to aid in comparisons of the two kinds of data. Note that some data overlap in time to the Argo program. Where there is an overlap, users are advised to get the data from the Argo data system. This can be accessed through the Argo Information Centre.
The trajectory files provided here duplicate much of what is found in the float data set found elsewhere on these DVDs. Users are advised to use the data to be found there before using these data.
Inventory records have not been constructed from these data because there has been no consistent quality control applied. Users will find unusual and wrong values in both profiles, locations and times. It was not possible to consistently edit out these values to produce inventory records that would be useful.
Documents: Provides relevant documents and a link to the Argo Information Center.
