The WOCE Data Information Unit (DIU) was operational at the Graduate College of Marine Studies of the University of Delaware in Lewes, DE since 1986 and followed the progress of the WOCE Field Program since its beginning in January, 1990. It acted as the central hub of a distributed data system, providing in one centralized location, information about all WOCE data sets.

In carrying out this role the DIU:

• Maintained and distributed a directory of WOCE-related datasets and provided referrals to related inventories of the WOCE Data Assembly Centers (DACs), and National and World Data Centers.
• Gathered information needed to maintain the Unit's directories and summaries. This activity required ties with the WOCE Data Assembly Centers and the funding agencies in the participating countries.
• Assisted DACs in the location and acquisition of datasets.
• Helped scientists use the WOCE data system and the associated computer links.

This DIU directory gives information about each of the DACs, the status of the data as of Version 3.0 and summary tables.
