Data tracking and directories The WOCE Data Information Unit (WDIU) maintained a WOCE data tracking system that collected and disseminated information about WOCE datasets. The system provided advance information about datasets that were collected, information about the status of data that had been collected, and information about the status and availability of datasets that had been collected for some time in the past. Information on the progress of the Field Program came from the WOCE International Project Office (IPO) in Southampton, UK, the WOCE Hydrographic Programme Office (WHPO), the Data Assembly Centers (DACs), and national committees. Due to the different status of each Data Assembly Centers, there was an unevenness in the currency of the information from the various field components. Information from national committees on the implementation (as distinct from plans) was sparse, with a few notable exceptions. WDIU Coordination Activities The WDIU served as a point of contact for coordinating WOCE data system activities worldwide. The WDIU worked with the IPO and with the DACs, and received regular updates. During the lifetime of the WDIU at the University of Delaware, scientists and technicians involved in the above projects included (current members include email addresses):
