Applications of the Data

These data represent the first comprehensive carbonate data obtained in the Weddell Sea during late winter. Because of the importance of the Weddell Sea as a source of deep water for the world's oceans, the data should contribute to a greater understanding of the oceanic circulation of excess CO₂ in the carbon cycle and are useful for the comparison with other data that have been obtained from the Weddell Sea, such as the GEOSECS data, the International Weddell sea Oceanographic Expedition data, the International Geophysical Year (IGY) data, and the data from the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition.
