CRUISE LIST COLUMN DEFINITIONS:
Horizontal line
#: Counter 1 - N, where N is the number of cruises in requested subset.
Horizontal line
Cruise Reference: In WOD, a cruise reference consist of two byte country code (CC) and cruise number (up to six byte); e.g., CC - 58 and unique cruise number - 3402 = cruise reference 58003402. The cruise number is unique for each country code.
A cruise number of zero (0) denotes lack of cruise information. Cast grouped with a cruise number of zero (0) are related only in lack of cruise information.
Horizontal line
Institute: Research group responsible for data from cruise. In the case of cruises with multiple institutes the listed institute is the first one encountered in the chronological order of casts.
Horizontal line
Platform: Physical base from which measurements were taken. Usually a ship, but can also be ice flow, airplane, moored buoy, etc. In the case of cruises with multiple platforms the listed platform is the first one encountered in the chronological order of casts.
Horizontal line
Cast: A set of profiles (or a single profile) taken concurrently. The profile is a set of measurements for a single variable (temperature, salinity, etc.) at discrete depths taken as an instrument drops or rises vertically in the water column. For surface-only data, the profile consists of measurements taken along a horizontal path. For moored buoys and drifting buoys, the instrument does not move vertically in the water column, so a profile is a discrete set of concurrent measurements from the instruments at different depths attached to the buoy. Each cast in the WOD is assigned a unique cast number. An "S" in the cast column denotes surface-only data were collected on the cruise.
Horizontal line
Accession #: NODC unique number assigned to each submitted data set. All original data submitted is stored at NODC and can be accessed through NODC National Ocean Archive System. In the case of cruises with multiple accession numbers the listed accession number is the first one encountered in the chronological order of casts.
Horizontal line
Start Date: Date of first measurements taken on cruise found in WOD. Follows the American convention (month/day/year).
Horizontal line
End Date: Date of last measurements taken on cruise found in WOD. Follows the American convention (month/day/year).
Horizontal line
Originators Cruise ID: Label given to cruise by data submittor.
Blue horizontal line
