OneNOAA Science Seminars

Adding seminars to the OneNOAA Science Seminar Google Calendar

A Google Calendar for the seminars has been created. Any NOAA office irrespective of geographic location or Line Office can nominate a Point of Contact to add seminars to the OneNOAA Science Google calendar. Please send the name of the person(s), email(s), and NOAA office affiliation(s). I will add the POC to the list of users that can add/edit OneNOAA seminars in the google calendar. Only NOAA staff with a valid NOAA email can add/edit the the OneNOAA Science seminar calendar.

To add the public access OneNOAA Science Seminar Google Calendar layer to your existing google calendar (viewing)

Any person with a gmail account can add the Google Calendar layer to your google calendars by simply clicking on the plus google calendar icon located at the bottom right corner of the Google Calendar.

To add NOAA sponsored science related seminars to the OneNOAA Science Seminar Google Calendar (requires user permission; see below)

If you are a OneNOAA seminar partner or NOAA staff entering seminar information into our OneNOAA Science seminar google calendar, please use the format shown below in the "DESCRIPTION" field of the google calendar. If everyone uses the format below, then this will simply the use of computer scripts to render seminar information. The text headings for each field should be written exactly as indicated. For example, "Title:" (not TITTLE, Seminar Title, or simply providing the title of the seminar without a sub heading). Please include only the fields that you need for your particular seminar.

The "DESCRIPTION" field of the google calendar is for free text only. All web links need to be explicitly written out as part of the text (e.g., http://www.noaa.gov/). In other words, do not simply cut and paste a text from a document with an embedded web link as this would not be "clickable" in the text field of the google calendar. Also, please do not use special fonts and characters that would not be correctly visible in a text format. You may attach a file to the google calendar if you wish but this may not be available for everyone to download.

Any NOAA office irrespective of geographic location or Line Office can indicate a NOAA staff Point of Contact to add seminars to the OneNOAA Science Google calendar. Please send Hernan.Garcia@noaa.gov the name of the person(s), email(s), and NOAA office affiliation(s). I will add the POC to the list of users that can add/edit OneNOAA seminars in the google calendar. Only NOAA staff with a valid NOAA email can add/edit the the calendar. As a reminder, the OneNOAA Science Seminars receive input from several NOAA staff including 38 OneNOAAScience seminar partners.

OneNOAA Science Seminar text format for "Description" field of the goggle calendar. Only use fields (exactly as written below) as needed (e.g., do not leave fields blank or no information)

Please note that ALL seminars entered into the OneNOAA Science Seminar calendar are public access. Please try to add only essential seminar information.

Abstract: In 2011, a survey of a proposed oil and gas lease in the Gulf of Mexico encountered three possible shipwrecks off Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. In three missions that have since followed in 2012, 2013 and 2014, the wrecks were revealed to be early 19th century, well-preserved time capsules with guns, navigational instruments, weapons, and bottles still filled with medicinal products. The three expeditions represent a unique partnership between four Federal agencies, two states, three universities and several non-profits to unlock the mystery of the three vessels. Preliminary indications are that one of the vessels is a privateer or pirate from the period around the War of 1812, and the other two vessels are likely its captives, all lost together with all hands in a violent storm. The old adage of "Dead Men Tell No Tales," doesn't always hold true.
