PACKAGE DESCRIPTION: This dataset is part of the long-term monitoring program OISO (Ocean Indien Service d'Observations) initiated in 1998, and covering contrasting regions in the South-West Indian Ocean from the subtropics to the Antarctic zone. It includes hydrological and biogeochemical measurements (temperature, salinity, oxygen, total CO2, alkalinity, nutrients, chlorophyll-a, d13C and d18O) collected in the water column (9 stations) using a rosette-CTD equipped with 24 Niskin bottles. Most of the samples were collected from the surface down to 1200m, except for 2 deep stations (down to the bottom at 30°S and 56.5°S). During the OISO-22 cruise we also collected underway fCO2 data (NCEI Accession 0116410), as well as underway total CO2 and alkalinity data (NCEI Accession 0173575) and complementary parameters collected in surface waters every 4h to 8h (nutrients, chlorophyll-a, d13C and d18O). The OISO data are regularly included in international data syntheses (SOCAT, GLODAP).

Sampling instrument: Niskin bottles

Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Seawater was collected in 500 ml glass bottles for the simultaneous analysis of total CO2 and total alkalinity. The samples were poisoned and stored in the dark in a cold environment. Measurements were performed onboard within a few days following a potentiometric titration method (Edmond, 1970, DSR), using an automated system with a closed cell described by Metzl et al. (2006, DSR). The equivalence point is determined using a non-linear regression method (D.O.E., 1994, eds. ORNL/CDIAC-74).
Replicate information: Deep replicate samples were collected from two different Niskin bottles (1200m or bottom). The mean difference between two deep replicates was 1.3±1.9 µmol/kg (n=9).
