INVESTIGATOR:
Nathalie Lefèvre - Sorbonne University (SU)

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION: This dataset includes chemical, physical, meteorological, and time series data collected from Mooring PIRATA_8N38W deployments in the Atlantic Ocean from 2008-04-20 to 2013-10-13. These data include mole fraction of CO2 in air in equilibrium with the seawater at sea surface temperature and measured humidity, sea surface temperature in degrees Celsius, sea surface salinity, and atmospheric pressure.

VARIABLES / PARAMETERS:

pCO2 (fCO2) autonomous
Abbreviation: fCO2
Unit: uatm
Observation type: Surface time series
Measured or calculated: Measured
Sampling instrument: Seawater pump
Location of seawater intake: Mooring buoy
Analyzing instrument: Absolute, non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas analyzer: LI-COR model 7000
Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Merlivat, L., and P. Brault (1995), CARIOCA Buoy: Carbon Dioxide Monitor, Sea Technology, 10, 23-30.
Equilibrator type: CARIOCA sensor
SEA CO2 gas detector manufacturer: Licor, Inc
SEA CO2 gas detector model: Licor 7000
SEA CO2 gas detector resolution: +/- 3 uatm
Standardization technique: The calibration is done in the laboratory by comparing the response of the spectrophotometer to the fCO2 of a seawater solution determined with an infrared analyzer (Licor 7000). The CARIOCA response is determined over the anticipated range of fCO2. The CARIOCA sensor is calibrated before and after deployment.
Standard gas manufacturer: NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL)
At what temperature was pCO2 reported: In situ sea surface temperature
Method reference: Merlivat, L., and P. Brault (1995), CARIOCA Buoy: Carbon Dioxide Monitor, Sea Technology, 10, 23-30.

Sea Surface Temperature
Abbreviation: SST
Unit: degrees celcius
Observation type: Surface time series
Analyzing instrument: Betatherm thermistor
Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Temperature measurements are made with a Betatherm thermistor. It is calibrated at the metrology laboratory of IFREMER (certified by COFRAC). The thermistor is calibrated between -2 and +32C, with an accuracy of 0.01C.
Uncertainty: Accuracy: 0.01 Deg. C
Researcher name: Nathalie Lefèvre
Researcher institution: LOCEAN, Université P. et M. Curie
Sea Surface Salinity
Abbreviation: SSS
Observation type: Surface time series
Researcher name: Nathalie Lefèvre
Researcher institution: LOCEAN, Université P. et M. Curie
Atmospheric Pressure
Abbreviation: Patm
Unit: hPA
Observation type: Surface time series
Analyzing instrument: Vaisala PTB101C, 900-1100 hPa
Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Atmospheric pressure on the buoy is measured using a Vaisala PTB101C, 900-1100 hPa. The accuracy is +/-0.3 mb at 20C and +/- 1 mb from 0 to 40C.
Replicate information: Factory calibrated before purchase. Recalibrated to sea level atmospheric air every 7 days
Uncertainty: accuracy is +/-0.3 mb at 20C and +/- 1 mb from 0 to 40C.
