Dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, temperature, salinity and other variables collected from discrete sample and profile observations using Alkalinity titrator, CTD and other instruments from unknown platforms in the South Pacific Ocean and Southern Oceans from 2010-12-28 to 2014-02-21 (NCEI Accession 0160574)
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION: This dataset includes chemical, discrete sample, physical and profile data collected from unknown platforms in the South Pacific Ocean and Southern Oceans (> 60 degrees South) from 2010-12-28 to 2014-02-21. These data include DISSOLVED INORGANIC CARBON (DIC), NITRATE, SALINITY, TOTAL ALKALINITY (TA), WATER TEMPERATURE, phosphate and silicate. The instruments used to collect these data include Alkalinity titrator, CTD, Coulometer for DIC measurement and bottle. These data were collected by Hugh Venables of British Antarctic Survey and Dorothee Bakker and Oliver Legge of University of East Anglia; School of Environmental Sciences as part of the TSM_Ryder_Bay_67S_68W_2010_2014 data set. CDIAC associated the following cruise ID(s) with this data set: TSM_Ryder_Bay_67S_68W_2010_2014
CITE AS: Bakker, Dorothee C. E.; Legge, Oliver J.; Venables, Hugh J. (2017). Total alkalinity | |
---|---|
Abbreviation: | DIC |
Unit: | μmol/kg |
Observation type: | time series |
Measured or calculated: | measured |
Sampling instrument: | Niskin Bottle |
Analyzing instrument: | VINDTA and coulometer |
Detailed sampling and analyzing information: | Unfiltered samples drawn from Niskin bottle using silicon tubing. Poisoned with mercuric chloride. Sealed with greased stopper. Cool, dark storage. Analysed by Coulometry. Samples analysed in three batches, corresponding to three field seasons (2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014). Samples analysed on two VINDTAs (V4 and V7). |
Replicate information: | Replicate analyses (separate bottles) for almost all samples |
Standardization description: | CRM batch 107 |
Standardization frequency: | Two or three CRMs per coulometer cell |
CRM manufacturer: | Andrew Dickson's lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography |
CRM batch number: | 107 |
Preservation method: | mercuric chloride |
Preservative volume: | 50uL for 250mL samples, 100uL for 500mL |
Preservative correction: | volume correction applied for poison |
Uncertainty: | The standard deviation of CRM measurements over the course of each analysis period is consistently less than 2.5 μmol/kg. There is greater variation in replicate precision between the three field seasons. DIC replicate (separate bottles) standard deviation in 2010-2012 was 4.3 μmol kg-1. In 2012-2013 it was 6.2 μmol kg-1 and in 2013-2014 it was 3.4 μmol kg-1. |
Quality flag convention: | 2 = good, 3 = suspect, 6 = mean of replicates |
