NISKIN_NO (none) Niskin number refers to the position of the Niskin bottle around the CTD rosette frame during the cast. For most cruises and casts, it goes from 1 to 12, 24, or 36, in order of sampling and deepest to shallowest.
NISKIN_ID (none) NISKIN_ID can be either (1) the permanent, unique serial number stamped or engraved on the barrel of the Niskin bottle from which the water samples are drawn, or (2) as a unique alphanumeric identifier assigned to only that device over the duration of the expedition. It is critical that the same numbering scheme be used by all participants on the cruise.
