Thanks for the suggestion! I'll make the updates accordingly. Your updated title and abstract look great. One small suggestion for change in title below in red. Just one more follow up on your data package (Soil Logs and Grain Size Analysis from 2023-06-19 to 2023-06-29). As I mentioned in my last email, I have given this data package a thorough, final review before archiving. Everything is largely in place, but I have just two suggested updates for your (i) Title and (ii) Abstract. Please see the following text for more details. And please let me know if anything is unclear. Thanks! Clint Title: The current title is: Soil Logs and Grain Size Analysis from 2023-06-19 to 2023-06-29. In addition to what you provided in the title, NCEI also prefers to have in the title the type of instrument used (borehole drills), the sea name (not applicable here), and/or the project name. Please let me know if you agree to the following change: Soil logs and grain size analysis from three boreholes as part of the West Fork of the Hoquiam River Dam Removal and Groundwater Replacement Preliminary Design and Permitting project from 2023-06-19 to 2023-06-29. If you agree with this change, I will update your title accordingly. Or if you have an alternative, that is fine too, but I only ask that you please create a title that includes what you have now plus (i) the type of "instrument" used and (ii) the project name. Abstract: The following is a copy and past of your well-written abstract. NCEI's guidance for the abstract is to also state what form the data takes, and so I've added the last sentence (highlighted in yellow) to tell any future User that the data were submitted as PDF files. I also made the word "borehole" plural (added an "s"; also highlighted in yellow) in the 3rd sentence since Aspect logged three boreholes. Please let me know if you agree with these suggestions, and if so I will make the change. Drilling of the exploratory boreholes and installation of the monitoring well was completed by Anderson Environmental Contracting, LLC (AEC), using sonic drilling methods. An Aspect geologist was on-site to observe the drilling and characterize the samples under the direction of a Washington State-licensed hydrogeologist (LHG). Aspect logged the boreholes in general accordance with ASTM International (ASTM) Method D2488, Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils (Visual-Manual Procedure). To confirm the soil type of Unit 3 (confined aquifer), Aspect submitted a representative soil sample to Hayre McElroy & Associates of Redmond, Washington, for laboratory analysis of grain-size distribution. Soil logs and a grain size analysis report are provided as PDF files. ================================================================================================================================= ================================================================================================================================= From: Kelsey Mach Date: Fri, Mar 7, 2025 at 10:33 AM Subject: RE: FW: Regarding your submission to NCEI: Soil Logs and Grain Size Analysis from 2023-06-19 to 2023-06-29 To: Clint Edrington - NOAA Affiliate Cc: Silas Sleeper Sounds great, thanks for your help Clint! Thank you for the Log key and for the response. All makes sense now. Kelsey, I will "request to archive" for this data package soon. This "archiving process" will get approved and set in motion probably early next week. You will receive an auto-generated email when that occurs. There is a series of steps I will go through to ensure the necessary metadata are included before the package is archived and discoverable from NCEI's website. I'll do most of this work, but I will need to reach back out to you asking for your approval for this and that. For example, we'll need to add a little more information to the title; I'll send you by email a suggested updated title for your approval (or you can provide an alternative instead). That kind of stuff. More on this soon. As I started off in our other email thread (subject: Regarding your submission to NCEI: Topographic/Bathymetric Survey from 2023-04-18 to 2023-04-20), thank you as well for this data submission. And as I said then, I apologize for the delay in the handling of this submission. I have given your data package (Soil Logs and Grain Size Analysis from 2023-06-19 to 2023-06-29) an initial review. I have just a few questions and requests to ask; I've bulletized them below for ease of reading: In the borehole logs, there is reference to "See Exploration Log Key for exploration of symbols" at the bottom of the logs. For a future user to utilize, can you please provide this log key to be included in this dataset? Yes, please see attached. There is no issue with the Grain Size Analyses (pdf) report. However, I noticed this report is just for one sample, which is Sample # 8681 from Borehole TB-2 at the depth of 130 ft. From my review of the three borehole logs, it seems there should be a total of 47 separate grain size analyses reports (i.e., 47 separate samples from which grain size analysis was conducted), including the report for Sample # 8681. Can these additional grain size analyses reports be included with this dataset? There was only one grain size analyses completed during this drilling program. Those other “samples” that were included on the log indicate grab samples that we bagged up and temporarily stored at our equipment storehouse for senior-level review. Lastly, if the sonic log is available, including a non-proprietary copy, this data type would also be a good supplement to your larger dataset. I think we might be using different terminology. Sonic logs (otherwise known as acoustic logs) were not completed as part of this study. We drilled the boreholes using sonic drilling methods so the “sonic logs” are actually just the borehole logs.
