From: Maribel García-Ibáñez Date: Wed, Mar 30, 2022 at 10:31 AM Subject: [CARIMED] - Update of NCEI cruise metadata and files for 318M19771204 To: Alex Kozyr - NOAA Affiliate Cc: Marta Álvarez Hi Alex, Regarding NCEI cruise metadata and files for cruise 318M19771204, here are the actions to be made on the NCEI website: Changes for data files on the NCEI file repository for 318M19771204: It should include the files contained in the Google Drive folder for the cruise: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1iOG2xq2Ekm-KLp8-Byqxv561M4O-O4jh Upload the data file (file: 318M19771204_hy1.csv). Upload the map (file: map_cruise_318M19771204.tif). Upload the cruise report (file: GeochemicalOceanSections.pdf). This cruise was already in the NCEI repository before CARIMED and has all this files that are not compiling with CARIMED standards: GEOSECS_IND.exc-3.csv; GEOSECS_IND.jpg; README; and oceanbt (folder). Could we only leave the CSV file, the map, and the cruise report, and maybe move the other files inside a folder of "extra files"? This way, the possible CARIMED user will have a similar repository for each CARIMED cruise. And this cruise has stations that are outside the MedSea and parameters that are not included in CARIMED, which will be lost if we only leave the CSV file in the repository. Changes for metadata information on NCEI for 318M19771204: The INVESTIGATORS and Principal Investigators should be Arnold E. Brainbridge - Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The positions of some stations were wrong, and they have been corrected in the new datafile. Therefore, the map that is included in NCEI is incorrect. Please redo the map (station positions should coincide with those in the map from the Google Drive indicated above). "VARIABLES/PARAMETERS" fields: For CTDTMP: The "Controlled vocabulary name" should be CTD WATER TEMPERATURE. Add the field "Researcher name: A.E. Bainbridge, R.T. Williams (SIO)". For SALNTY: Add the field "Researcher name: A.E. Bainbridge, R.T. Williams (SIO)". For OXYGEN: Add the field "Researcher name: A.E. Bainbridge, R.T. Williams (SIO)". For SILCAT, NITRAT, NITRIT, and PHSPHT: Add the field "Researcher name: A.E. Bainbridge, R.T. Williams (SIO)". For TCARBN: Add field:"Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Total inorganic carbon was determinated by means of the Gran (Analyst, 1952) potentiometric titration method using an automated titrator system similar to the described by Edmond (DSR, 1970). The precision of total carbon measurements was ±4 µmol kg-1 (one standard deviation) and the reproducibility for the total carbon was estimated ±10 µM kg-1 (REP&PUB 1). The total carbon values for GEOSECS Indian Ocean had been corrected by -15 µM kg-1 because the glass electrode used had sensitivities of about 98% of the ideal value.". Add the field "Researcher name: A.E. Bainbridge, R.T. Williams, R. Keeling (SIO), T. Takahashi (LDEO)". For ALKALI: Add field:"Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Alkalinity was determinated by means of the Gran (Analyst, 1952) potentiometric titration method using an automated titrator system similar to the described by Edmond (DSR, 1970). The titrator was calibrated repeatedly using standard solutions prepared of sodium borate decahydrate crystals and triple-distilled water. During GEOSECS Indian Ocean was applied a blank correction of 5 µeq kg-1. The precision of alkalinity measurements was ±2 µeq kg-1 (one standard deviation) and the reproducibility was estimated about ±4 µeq kg-1.". Add the field "Researcher name: A.E. Bainbridge, R.T. Williams, R. Keeling (SIO), T. Takahashi (LDEO)". For TRITIUM: Add the field "Researcher name: H.G. Östlund (UM)". The "PUBLICATIONS DESCRIBING THIS DATASET" field in NCEI metadata should contain those that are already in the NCEI metadata plus: Weiss, R.F.;, Broecker, W.S.; Craig, H.; Spencer, D. Maybe I should create a new archive/accession just for the 318M19771204 cruise? This accession should stay as is though. What do you think? Thank you, Alex. Maribel García-Ibáñez 3:26 AM (6 hours ago) to me, MARTA Hi Alex, I think creating an accession for the 318M19771204 cruise may be the best option. Marta, what do you think? Best regards,
