***************************************************************** Journal for accession number: 0170751 Created on: 2020-03-17 By: Denise Gordon, National Centers for Environmental Information Source: New or updated data files were submitted to NCEI by OER from NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER. Version: 2.2 Updates received on: 2020-03-17 This version of NCEI Accession 0170751 contains additional data archived for the mission. These data include ROV Ancillary files. While revising this Archival Information Package, NCEI made other changes to bring this AIP in line with current archiving practices. Files: about/ This directory contains files generated by NCEI with ancillary information about the data submission. 0170751_lonlat.txt - Contains sample locations for these data. Each row contains the geographical position where these data were collected (longitude in the left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees). NCEI may have corrected geographic positions that seemed to be in error when generating this file. However, NCEI did not change the original data files under the directory data/0-data/. 0170751_map.jpg - Sample location map for these data. about/metadata/ This directory contains ISO standard metadata records created by NCEI in XML format. data/0-data/ This directory contains the data and information files as submitted to NCEI. data/0-data/submersible/ This directory contains all the data and information files that were collected on the NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER's ROV Deep Discoverer and SEIRIOS Camera Sled, and includes Submersible Navigation Data, Submersible Sensor Raw Data (ROV CTD and Vehicles Data), Submersible Multimedia Data (Dive Images and Event Logs), and Submersible Specimen Data. data/0-data/vessel/ This directory contains all the data and information files that were collected on the NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER, and includes Ship Navigation; Ship Sensor Raw Data (SCS Data - Air Temp, Barometer, Doppler Depth, Event Data, Met, Relative Humidity, SAMOS, Sound Velocity, Thermosalinograph, Water Temperature, Wind Direction, Wind Speed) (Profile Data - asvp, CTD, XBT); ADCP Data; Multibeam and Singlebeam Bathymetric Data. data/1-data/ This directory contains the post-mission processed CTD data. These files were converted by NCEI from their originally submitted format under the 0-data/ directory to an archival format. Data was converted and bin averaged using the Sea-Bird software, and Python scripts were used to merge, split, and thin data files as needed. Additionally, headers for some SCS serial sensor files were corrected. In some cases an outdated configuration file was used to generate the headers which did not account for possible SCS system patches. In those cases the beginning and ending character positions for the serial sensor values were "off" by 1 or 2 which potentially would confuse any software which relies on those character positions. submersible/Submersible_Sensor_Raw_Data/Profile_Data/CPCTD *.cnv - These engineering units files were created from the *.hex files in the 0-data/ directory using Sea-Bird V 7.21g software. Some raw CTDs from submersibles consist of the descent, bottom, and ascent in one file. The CTD is processed with the Sea-Bird software into a .cnv file. This file is split into three files so that the descent, bottom, and ascent are in separate files, with the identifiers _D, _B, and _A added to the file name. The split files are then bin averaged to one meter using the Sea-Bird software. The directory structure was maintained and bin_avg was appended to the basename separated by an underscore (_). submersible/Submersible_Sensor_Raw_Data/Profile_Data/ROVCTD *.cnv - These engineering units files were created from the *.hex files in the 0-data/ directory using Sea-Bird V 7.21g software.
