IN short, the archive accepted the previous dataset without coordinates, and Brian created a bounding box (which is in the InPort record). See below for the details about that correspondence and the final decision to accept the dataset without the coordinates included. Apologies for the issue with the overlapping accessions. I realized my error after I submitted the data. It might be helpful to know that I believe this will continue to be an on-going data collection that will be updated annually. It is ok to leave out GPS coordinates. So what I am going to do is create a GPS file with the four points of the bounding box. That will allow me to generate a map for display purposes. In general though, it does matter because the usefulness of the data goes way down when you don't have specific localities. I will double check with the archive to make sure it is ok.? These particular CRCP proposals are to provide scientific support for Kahekili HFMA, and as part of that CREP joins them on the surveys. We are on their boat, they make up at least half the personnel, and they have even done an entire round and many many separate surveys without any fed folks involved. Further, the project started in 2008, but CRCP funding to provide support to their survey efforts didn't begin until 2010. Ivor has indicated that DAR strongly prefers not to include the LAT/LON info, and as support to their data collection efforts we are inclined to oblige. Are the coordinates really required? Can we work around this? If we need to discuss instead, give me a ring in the morning. . On Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 8:34 AM, Brian Beck - NOAA Affiliate wrote: That is a good question. I would say since it isn't "sensitive" data and it is federally funded, I think we need to include them. He has intentionally left out the coordinates because it is a state data set ultimately and that is their preference. I told him I would let him know if that was an issue. Do the coordinates have to be included? Am I missing them somewhere obvious? Once I get the GPS sorted this one is done. -Brian- On Fri, Apr 15, 2016 at 3:23 PM, Annette DesRochers - NOAA Affiliate wrote: actually, he just created the new S2N account: nmfs.pic.credinfo@noaa.gov On Fri, Apr 15, 2016 at 9:22 AM, Annette DesRochers - NOAA Affiliate wrote: Hey Brian Troy will create the account and send you the info shortly. The zip file contained 2 data files in the S2N submission for Kahekili...? I've attached the two files to this email, they haven't changed from the original submission, just the metadata was updated. Can you share it with me in google drive or e-mail it if it is small enough? 2) I need you to create the S2N account for that new e-mail address you provided. Once that is done they should be able to transfer the S2N submissions. Unless other edits are needed following your review of the submission package, I can send the final metadata record to you to replace the draft I submitted thru S2N. NCEI received these data, Fish, Benthic and Urchin Survey Data from Kahekili Herbivore Fisheries Management Area (HFMA), Maui since 2008, on 2016-04-09 01:34:14 via S2N. After reviewing your submission package (metadata and data), I assigned your submission an NCEI Accession Number 0146683. This number is a tracking identifier for the NCEI Ocean Archive. Please reference this number when corresponding with NCEI about these data. You can find information about these archived data at http://accession.nodc.noaa.gov/0146683. After further reviewing your data, creating any additional representations of these data in a format that is more preservable in the NCEI Ocean Archive, and developing necessary tracking metadata, NCEI will publish these archived data online. You may access the archival copy of your original data via the link listed above. In addition to creating an archival copy of these data, NCEI may include all or part of your data into one or more product databases, such as the World Ocean Database. Your submission package has been assigned Reference ID: NADL6J. After reviewing your data and metadata, NCEI will update you about the archival status of your submission package. You will be notified if NCEI creates an archival information package (accession) of your data, including the unique identifier for that archival information package (the NCEI Accession number). When your data are archived, NCEI keeps an exact copy of the data and metadata you sent and will develop necessary tracking and discovery metadata. In addition, NCEI may create additional versions to ensure your data are preserved for long-term access.
