***************************************************************** Journal for accession number: 0036668 Created on: 2007-11-19 14:07:55 -0500 By: Brenda Robinson nee Humphries,SSMC3 4632, 7133272110 Source: These data were sent to NCEI by the NOAA Office of Exploration on three MiniDV tapes. Action(s): Video data on each Mini DV tape was transferred into Apple Final Cut Pro, from which a high-resolution file in the .dv format was exported and copied into the subdirectory data/0-data/Cruise_ID-year/. The .dv files were then transcoded with the command line utility ffmpeg to create low-resolution access files in the .mov format, which were copied into data/1-data/Cruise_ID-year/. Files: about/ This directory contains files generated by NCEI with ancillary information about the data submission. 0036668_lonlat.txt - Contains sample locations for these data. Each row contains the geographical position where these data were collected (longitude in the left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees). NCEI may have corrected geographic positions that seemed to be in error when generating this file. However, NCEI did not change the original data files under the directory data/0-data/. 0036668_map.jpg - Sample location map for these data. data/0-data/Canaveral_2005 This directory contains the high resolution videos which were transferred to .dv format from the originally submitted MiniDV tapes. JSL1-4910-1_2.dv JSL1-4910-2_2.dv These files use the following naming convention: vehicleID_diveNumber_tapeJ_ofN data/1-data/Canaveral_2005 This directory contains the low resolution video files which were transcoded by NCEI to the .mov format from the NCEI-created .dv files. FloridaCoastDeepCorals2005_Dive4910_Tape01_Low.mov FloridaCoastDeepCorals2005_Dive4910_Tape02_Low.mov Unlike the high-res video files in 0-data/, these transcoded files use an alternate naming convention for physical media that is consistent with other, later video data from the same data provider: CruiseID_DiveID_TapeID_Low.mov In this archival information package, the following mapping indicates which .dv file directly corresponds to an equivalent .mov file: 0-data/Canaveral_2005/JSl1_4910_1_2.dv = 1-data/Canaveral_2005/FloridaCoastDeepCorals2005_Dive4910_Tape01_Low.mov 0-data/Canaveral_2005/JSl1_4910_2_2.dv = 1-data/Canaveral_2005/FloridaCoastDeepCorals2005_Dive4910_Tape02_Low.mov data/1-data/Log_files 4910_1&2.rtf - Brief text annotating the two tapes.
