Source: Patrick Caldwell, NCEI employee and data manager for the Joint 
Archive for Shipboard Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (JASADCP), based
at the University of Hawaii, sent these data to NCEI via FTP.

Actions:  Gzip, tar file in incoming/liaison was copied into ../data/0-data,
uncompressed, then untarred.  The tar file was deleted.

Version2.3 - This version of NCEI Accession 0001206 has the following
differences relative to the original 0001206v1.2:
- Adds to all sonar-cruise sets a NetCDF version of the ASCII text 
Standard Subset (hourly/10-m depth averages).  
- For all sonar-cruise sets that held the high resolution shipboard ADCP 
data in the Common Oceanographic Data Analysis System (CODAS) binary 
format, two NetCDF files are added: 1) a long form which is an exact dump 
of the CODAS files and 2) a short form, still of high resolution, yet for 
select ancillary variables and the ocean currents in Earth coordinates. 
Note, in the long form, the ADCP measurements are stored relative to the 
ADCP (ship velocity plus ocean currents). 
- The directory structure of 0-data/ in 0001206v1.2 was organized by ship, 
year, and sonar-cruise identifier. For 0001206v2.3, the directory structure 
is organized by only the sonar-cruise identifier, within two higher order 
directories-- one for sets with CODAS (codas/) and the other without CODAS 
(non_codas/, and thus without the long- and short-form NetCDF files). 
- Select sonar-cruise sets within 001206v1.2 had working files that were 
inadvertently added back in 2003.  Thus, for 0001206v2.3, these working files 
were removed by the JASADCP.  
- A subdirectory metdata/ was added to 0-data/ with a thorough explanation 
of all subsequent subdirectories and files within 0001206v2.2.

This directory contains files generated by NCEI with ancillary information
about the data submission.

0001206_lonlat.txt -
  Contains sample locations for these data.  Each row contains the
  geographical position where these data were collected (longitude in the
  left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees).  NODC may
  have corrected geographic positions that seemed to be in error when
  generating this file.  However, NODC did not change the original data
  files under the directory data/0-data/.

0001206_map.jpg -
  Station location map for these data.  Latitude and longitude data has
  been extracted from the data files in this accession.  These data have
  been used to create a map graphic.

data/0-data/ 
This directory contains the data files as submitted to NCEI.
