***************************************************************** Journal for accession number: 0161019 Created on: 2017-02-22 23:50:26 UTC By: Automated Ingest Agent Source: Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP) Buoys Important Documentation Note: The format, Quality Control and other documentation for these CDIP data are archived in NCEI Accession 0104062 (https://accession.nodc.noaa.gov/0104062). Actions: NCEI uses an automated process to acquire the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP) data files from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO). This automated process runs in accordance with the terms identified in the Submission Information Form, as agreed by NCEI and SIO. about/ This directory contains files generated by NCEI with ancillary information about the data submission. 0161019_lonlat.txt - Contains sample locations for these data. Each row contains the geographical position where these data were collected (longitude in the left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees). 0161019_map.jpg - Sample location map for these data. 0161019_retrievals.txt - Information on the range of data retrieved, with: a) Observation Year (CDIP RETRIEVALS BY cdip-crawler.pl for YEAR: 2013) b) Range of months retrieved (MONTHS: 01 TO 03) c) Count of metadata files (METADATA FILES RETRIEVED: 166) d) Observation start and end date/time (START OBSERVATION DATETIME (YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm): 2013-01-01 00:00) ( END OBSERVATION DATETIME (YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm): 2013-03-31 23:59) e) List of information on each monthly crawl (MONTH, CRAWLER VERSION, DATE & TIME, DATA FILES, BYTES RETRIEVED) f) List of platforms for which data was retrieved, and datatypes retrieved, by platform (COUNT CDIP NDBC FILE TYPES DATA TYPES) (The 3-digit CDIP platform identification is assigned by SIO, and is permanent; the 5-character NDBC id is assigned for current buoys and may later be reassigned. For older inactive platforms, where the NDBC id assigned while active is unknown, "(UNK)" is written to the NDBC column.) g) List of types retrieved (by platform ID in above listing, and for ALL PLATFORMS) ( ALL PLATFORMS xy df dp dd de sp db dw da dt pm Hs Tp Dp Sd Ta Ap Ws Wd At St) (If the type is not present in the time period, that column will contain blanks) h) Descriptions of all file and data types i) Instrumentation by platform ID (CDIPID NDBCID INSTRUMENT NAME) j) Instrumentation for all platforms (DISTINCT GAUGE TYPES (INSTRUMENTS) IN THIS TIME PERIOD) data/0-data/ This directory contains the data and information files as retrieved from CDIP. data/0-data/metadata/ Three types of files for each platform for which data was retrieved: a) nnn_arch.txt -- see cdip_chan_proc_arch.txt b) nnn_proc.txt -- see cdip_chan_proc_arch.txt and cdip_meta_proc.txt c) nnnSp#meta.xml -- see cdip_metadata_docs.txt (The nnn is the CDIP platform id number) (The 'Sp#' is the stream designation -- see cdip_chan_proc_archive.pdf in documentation accession) data/0-data/ Data from buoys: Sub directories prototype: YYYY_MM/BBB/ss_ttt/ File names prototype: ttBBBssYYYYMMdd.txt a) YYYY_MM = Year_month b) BBB = 3 digit buoy identifier c) ss = channel (2 digits) or stream (p + 1 digit) d) ttt = type of data; directories of type ttt can contain files of type tt: spc: spectral data, with tt = sp xyz: position data, with tt = xy dsk: Full time series data, with tt = df prd: "product" data, with tt = pm, dd, de, da, db, dp, dt, dw, e) tt = file type; File type descriptions: sp: Spectral (Directional Energy, 64 or 128 bands) xy: Continuous xy displacement for Datawell directional buoys df: Full time series for directional and non-directional ('dskfarm') pm: Parameter (wave, wind, temperature, and pressure) dd: Direction (9-band spectral direction) de: Energy (9-band spectral energy) da: Air temperature (both degrees Celsius--also in pm; and Fahrenheit) db: Barometric pressure (mB corrected to sea level--also in pm) dp: Depth (of wave sensor--also in pm) dt: Sea temperature (both degrees Celsius--also in pm; and Fahrenheit) dw: Wind data (summary speed and by directional octant) f) YYYYMM = Year and Month g) dd = Day of Month (The ss_xyz and ss_dsk directories have daily files due to their size; all other directories have one file for the entire month, and "dd" in the file name is missing.)
