***************************************************************** Journal for accession number: 0039430 Created on: 2016-12-19 By: Fred Katz, National Centers for Environmental Information Source: These data were sent to NCEI by the NOAA Office of Exploration on 4 MiniDV tapes. Action(s): Video data on each MiniDV tape was transferred into Apple Final Cut Pro in a real time capture process. From Final Cut Pro, a high-resolution preservation file was created in a dv wrapper format, and exported into the subdirectory data/0-data/Islands_The_Stream-2001/. Each dv file was identified by the .dv file format extension. The dv files were then transcoded with the ffmpeg command line utility to create low-resolution access files in the Apple QuickTime wrapper format, which were copied into data/1-data/Cruise_ID-year/. Each QuickTime file was identified by the .mov file format extension. Files: about/ This directory contains files generated by NCEI with ancillary information about the data submission. 0039430_lonlat.txt - Contains the geographical position of the center of the area where these data were collected (longitude in the left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees). 0039430_map.jpg - Sample location map for the geographical position of the center of the area where these data were collected. data/0-data/Islands_in_the_Stream-2001 This directory contains the high resolution videos which were transferred to video files format from the originally submitted MiniDV tapes. All these files are encoded with the dv video codec, however two different container formats were used, depending on the version of Final Cut Pro used at the time to make the transfers. The two older files, with the .dv file extension, were wrapped in a dv container format. The two newer files, with the .mov file extension, were wrapped in the Quicktime container format. Clelia-622-1_3CHIP.dv Clelia-622-1_SIT.mov Clelia-622-2_3CHIP.dv Clelia-622-3_3CHIP.mov These files use the following naming convention: vehicleID-diveNumber-tapeSetNumber_cameraType.dv where tapeSetNumber notates that multiple cameras captured the same temporal sequence, and where cameraType notates the specific camera used, 3CHIP indicating a 3-CCD camera Weaver indicating a hand-held camera operated by PI Doug Weaver from Clelia's interior data/1-data/Sebastian-2001 This directory contains the low resolution video files which were transcoded by NCEI to the QuickTime format from the NCEI-created dv-encoded files.
