Species diversity of mesozooplankton in the South Atlantic

Summary

The Shannon species diversity information index has been employed to investigate 833 zooplankton samples from waters of the Southern trade-wind, Brazilian, Falkland, Bengela currents, West wind current and in central waters of the South Atlantic anti-cyclonic circulation. The subtropical part of the water circulation was observed to have a maximum index value, the sub-Antarctic one — a minimum value. Diurnal changes in the diversity were fixed. There was no relation between productivity and species diversity. A negative correlation was observed between mean index values and their variation coefficients.
