+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | OCEANUS CRUISE SYNOPSIS | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Voyage - Leg: OC 287 Voyage Dates: 04 - 18 Sep 1996 Chief Sci(s): Jim Ledwell Address: Bigelow 103A WHOI Phone: x 3305 Email: jledwell@whoi.edu Cruise Objective: ONR - Coastal Mixing and Optics Program Science Activities: Tracer injection and survey of patch CTD stations Operations Area: Continental Shelf south of Martha's Vineyard between Nantucket-NY shipping lanes SSSG Tech: Departure Port: Woods Hole Agent: NA Arrival Port: Woods Hole Agent: NA Installed Scientific 12kHz xducers + depth recorders Equipment: Underway data logging (Nav,SST,IMET) IMET meteorology system ADCP system (300kHZ) WHOI-Provided Science 4- 1.2 l or 5 l Niskin bottles for wire work ???? Tools: Program-Provided CTD instrumentation Science Tools: All tow bodies 500m -.322" EM cable for sled Portable winch for Neil Oakey Shipboard Berthing van Equipment/Nav: Standard navigation equip. Ship's crane Trawl winch, 9/16" wire .322" EM cable (NLT 1000m) Markey winch to operate in auto mode Other Requirements: Request crew runs science winches during continuous underway ops. Notes: 1) Many moorings and guard buoys are in the area. Concern over towing through arrays when chasing tracer 'patch'. 2) Require 300kHz vs 150kHz ADCP due to interference from deployed instrumentation 3) Experiment is a multiple ship operation; require VHF comm between ships in labs as well as bridge. 4) Need to establish a common navigation baseline or origin for use with all ships. 5) 3 vehicles to be towed: a) Tracer injection from stbd boom, b) Tracer tow sled off arm A-frame, c) EPSONDE profiler from A-frame. 6) On what winch is science provided CTD wire to be spooled? If ship's Markey, how?? Navy Clearance Status: Last Modified: 10/04/1996 Check List: Required?
