-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Some errors in the data we received last Friday (fwd) Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2011 20:57:59 -0700 From: Patrick Robinson To: Jonathan Blythe CC: Tim Boyer Hi Jonathan, Sorry again about all these problems. I just checked my local files and found none of the same errors, so I suspect they are transfer errors. I've never had issues FTP-ing files before... weird! To address your specific questions: -I uploaded a new version of the 2008030 file (with a 'V2' suffix). Hopefully that one contains a LOT more data. -Let me know if you'd like me to re-upload the other files that had issues (this would, obviously, require very little effort on my part). -I have sent an email to our tag manufacturer to ask them about the temperature sensors that are used in the TDRs. I suspect that the actual sensor is exactly the same in the two tag models, but I'll forward their response when I receive it. (I also asked them about the temperature bias you mentioned). It is very unlikely that the body heat of the seal is influencing the readings (there's a lot of blubber and a lot of water flow across the sensor!). oh, and TDR stands for Time-Depth Recorder (even though they usually record a lot more than just time and depth... a historic term, I guess). Thanks, -P _____________________________ Patrick W. Our preference would be to archive the data with these errors, and then we will add a note to let archive users know about these instances. Tim will omit these lines from the WOD record, and this should be sufficient as this is where we expect most users to access the data anyway. However, if a file is missing a lot of data (like potentially 2008030_Eseal.csv), then by all means please do re-submit a more complete record. Also, please find Tim's email and associated files detailing his quality control analysis. In summary, could you please send us an inventory of which sensors are associated with which file names (MK9 or MK10)? Could you look at your local copy and confirm that this wasn't an error in the ftp transmission? I'll defer to Tim on how he wants to handle this, but I thought you should know. World Ocean Database will do a more thorough quality control of the data, and he may want to handle these errors in some way other than re-submission of the identified files. Thank you, Jonathan Files with formatting errors: 2006041_Eseal.csv has an error on line 465849 starting with the latitude coordinate, through the end of the line. 2007011_Eseal.csv has a bad Matlab date-number on line 1941 2007034_Eseal.csv has a bad latitude value on line 505166 2008030_Eseal.csv is a problematic file, as the final line is incomplete indicating early truncation.
