The raw data files are about 250MB in total. The mooring was sponsored by Naval Facilities Command Engineering Service Center (NAVFAC) at Port Hueneme, CA, and Sound and Sea Technology, with additional instrumentation provided by Makai Ocean Engineering and deployment and planning by Todd Erickson of the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, University of Hawaii. The unprocessed raw ASCII files have self explanatory headers. The data are clean and do not require any filtering or de-spiking. The same data are also available as a Matlab file (67MB), which has had minimal processing other than interpolating short time gaps. #PURPOSE: Understand currents and density structure in support of potential Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion site. #PROJECT: NAVFAC/Sound and Sea Mooring Barbers Point #FUNDING: Naval Facilities Command Engineering Service Center of Port Hueneme, CA #ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Sound and Sea Technology, who subcontracted with Todd Erickson at University of Hawaii. The acoustic releases and ADCPs were a loan by Makai Engineering. Data processing and management provided by Greg Rocheleau of Makai Engineering. #LOCATION EXTREMES: SOUTHERNMOST LATITUDE: 21.16698045 SOUTHERNMOST LATITUDE HEMISPHERE: N NORTHERNMOST LATITUDE: 21.16698045 NORTHERNMOST LATITUDE HEMISPHERE: N WESTERNMOST LONGITUDE: 158.15673762 WESTERNMOST LONGITUDE HEMISPHERE: W EASTERNMOST LONGITUDE: 158.15673762 EASTERNMOST LONGITUDE HEMISPHERE: W #LOCATION KEYWORDS: North Pacific, Hawaii, Oahu, Barbers Point, Kalaeloa #SAMPLING STATIONS: One mooring location #BEGIN AND END DATES: 20100512 - 20101216 #SAMPLING PERIODS: continuous readings #PARAMETERS: eastward currents (m/s) northward currents (m/s) ADCP temperature (degrees Celsius) CTD temperature (degrees Celsius, ITS-90) CTD conductivity (S/m) CTD pressure (db) Depth (m) Salinity (PSU) #METHODOLOGY: Current data were compiled from the downward and upward looking ADCP Workhorse Long Rangers. Comment from Greg Rocheleau: "The data are quite clean and do not require any filtering or de-spiking." FILE: ADCP EAST.txt CONTENT: Eastward Currents (m/s) from ADCP FORMAT DESCRIPTION: Metadata provided in the file to explain location, depths, bin spacing, dates, times, time zone, and units of data. Order of parameters defined by a header. FILE: ADCP NORTH.txt COMMENT: as above yet for Northward Currents (m/s) FILE: ADCP Temp505m.txt COMMENT: temperature data from ADCP, self-descriptive FILE: Metadata.txt COMMENT: Information about the originators, instruments, and files FILE: SBE37SM_03707667_20m_101221.cnv CONTENT: CTD data at 20 m depth FORMAT DESCRIPTION: Standard output from SBE instrument with self-descriptive metadata. The data are aligned in nine columns, explained consecutively in "name 0" through "name 8". Note date/time is given in column 8 as seconds after the start time, May 12 2010 14:00:01, defined as 326988001 seconds. The following text files mirror the file above except with depth defined in the filename: FILE: SBE37SM_03707777_80m_101221.cnv FILE: SBE37SM_03707776_130m_101221.cnv FILE: SBE37SM_03707778_230m_101221.cnv FILE: SBE37SM_03706935_850m_101220.cnv FILE: SBE37SM_03707414_1000m_101220.cnv The following is a Matlab file FILE: NAVFAC_SST_Mooring_Data.mat COMMENT: The Matlab file was created from the text files defined above for convenience of analysis. The data are parsed into structs: e.g. sbe80.time is the time (in matlab datenum format), sbe80.temp is the temperature record, sbe80.press is the pressure, etc. The current data within the matlab file is provided in mm/s. Time is Hawaii Standard Time. #DATASET SIZE: 282,652 Kbytes #NUMBER OF DATA UNITS: 2 ADCPs 6 CTDs One mooring location #MISCELLANEOUS:
