Source: The file "Mass_Bay_Internal_Wave_Ex_2.zip" was submitted by the NODC 
Liaison Scott Mowery on behalf of Ellyn Montgomery of the USGS at Woods Hole via 
FTP.  This file was unzipped using the unix unzip command, and its contents were 
copied to the 0-data directory.  The DVD The Massachusetts Bay Internal Wave
Experiment, August 1998: Data Report; U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 85
Version 2.0 was sent to NODC Liaison Scott Mowery on August 10, 2010 from E.
Montgomery, U.S. Geological Survey 384 Woods Hole Rd., Quissett Campus, Woods
Hole, MA 20543-1598.

Files:
about/ This directory contains files generated by NODC with ancillary information 
about the data submission.

0061443_lonlat.txt - contains unique longitude and latitude coordinates giving the 
                     locations where the measurements were conducted.

0061443_map.jpg - is a map of the longitude and latitude positions from the above 
                  file.

0-email.txt - contains the email originally sent by the data officer initiating the 
              archiving of the Massachusetts Bay Circulation Experiment data.

1-email.txt - contains the email from the data officer resubmitting the data for 
              archiving because the originally uploaded .zip file was unreadable.

0-letter.pdf - scanned copy of the letter mailed with the data report DVD.

Basic_Sampling_Interval.csv - Metadata for the files in the Basic_Sampling_Interval
			      directory in data/0-data/.  Non-ASCII characters
			      represent information that did not transfer over
			      from the NetCDF's binary format. 

Hourly_Averaged_Data.csv - Metadata for the files in the Hourly_Averaged_Data 
                           directory in data/0-data/.  Non-ASCII characters
                           represent information that did not transfer over
                           from the NetCDF's binary format.

DVDlabel.tif- scanned tiff image of the DVD label.

DVDfrontcover.tif- scanned tiff image of the DVD jewel case front cover.

DVDbackcover.tif- scanned tiff image of the DVD jewel case back cover.

data/0-data/ This directory contains the data and metadata files as submitted to 
NODC.  The file types include ASCII text, KML, PNG, GIF, and HTML.  Two 
subdirectories, Hourly_Averaged_Data and Basic_Sampling_Interval, contain data in 
the netCDF format in the epic convention.

The file data/0-data/disc_image/0061443_discImage_dvd.iso is an ISO9660 disc
image of the CD-ROM/DVD product archived in this accession. The image file was
created at NODC using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9. This file should be used
only to create an exact replica of the original disc contents on similar
media. A subset of data and documentation files, excluding executable files,
viewers, and other utility files, was copied to data/0-data/disc_contents/ in
an 'as is' condition directly from the original product.  A data report is
included in the disc_contents/ subdirectory, which contains an html web 
accessible document, which can be initiated by opening the file start.html in a 
web browser.  The data from the DVD may be preliminary versions of the data
that are also represented in the subdirectories Hourly_Averaged_Data and
Basic_Sampling_Interval of the 0-data directory.  Therefore, the contents of
the DVD should be used for reference purposes only.

data/1-data/disc_contents/ This directory contains PDF and CSV files generated by 
NODC that are reformatted from the PDF and XLS files from the disc_contents 
sub-directory located in the 0-data directory.
