USGS Woods Hole Science Center legacy data attached for adding to the NODC Accessions. --------------------------------------------- Working with Ellyn Montgomery, USGS Woods Hole Data Manager, this is one element of the USGS inventory of archived time series data. Data is provided in the basic sample interval and hourly averaged. Variables include, among others, currents, temperature, pressure, conductivity, light transmission (beam attenuation), etc. Time range of the complete series is 1975 - present. I have placed the file Long_Term_Monitoring_Massachusetts_Bay.zip on the anonymous FTP site Liaison directory for your retrieval (ftp://ftp.nodc.noaa.gov/pub/incoming/liaison/). The zip file (1,576 files) includes the complete datasets and supporting metadata / associated files for field activities from the LONG TERM MONITORING OF MASSACHUSETTS BAY Field Program, which took measurements of currents and other oceanographic properties at two locations to understand the transport and long-term fate of sediments and associated contaminants in Massachusetts Bay, one to the south of the new ocean outfall (LT-A), and at a second location about 22 km to the southeast of the ocean outfall offshore of Scituate, Mass (LT-B). This set of field observations is part of a larger project to develop a predictive capability and understanding of the fate, transport, and environmental effects of sewage wastes discharged to the coastal ocean (see http://woodshole.er.usgs.gov/project-pages/bostonharbor/). The duration of this time series is from 1989 to 2006. USGS Principle Investigators were: B. Butman, M. Bothner, and R. Signell. Collaborators included: Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The files are organized into sub-directories for the LT-A (new ocean outfall) and LT-B (ocean outfall off of Scituate, Mass). Each sub-directory includes separate directories for the Basic Sampling Interval and Hourly Averaged Data; the remaining Field Activity Reports, trip Maps (.png), metadata files, and Google Earth KML files are included in the root directory. The package also includes few images from select activities. Original data from each cruise is stored in _Net_work _C_ommon _D_ata Format (netCDF) files using the EPIC (_E_quatorial _P_acific _I_nformation _C_ollection) conventions defined by the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory.
