USGS Woods Hole Science Center legacy data attached for adding to the NODC Accessions. Working with Ellyn Montgomery, USGS Woods Hole Data Manager, this is one element of the USGS inventory of moored time series data. The attached zip file (12 files) includes the complete datasets and supporting metadata / associated files for field activities from the WHITEFOOT cruise planned in response to the ARGO MERCHANT oil spill off of Nantucket in December, 1976. This data is from a moored array deployed after the ARGO MERCHANT ran aground on Nantucket Shoals, designed to help understand the fate of spilled oil. Measurements include current, temperature, pressure, conductivity, light transmission (beam attenuation) among others. Data is provided at the fastest instrument sampling interval and often as hourly averages. The data is stored in _Net_work _C_ommon _D_ata Format (netCDF) files using the EPIC (_E_quatorial _P_acific _I_nformation _C_ollection) conventions defined by the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. Associated ASCII files and Google Earth KML files are also included. Metadata and KML files have also been forwarded to the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) for inclusion in the Regional Ecosystem Data Management System and climate change baseline assessments. Data submission POC is Scott Mowery, NCDDC Northeast Liaison (scott.mowery@noaa.gov) Thanks, Scott -- Scott Mowery Northeast Liaison Officer NOAA National Coastal Data Development Center NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office NOAA@Nauticus One Waterside Drive Norfolk, VA 23510 757.627.3823 x35 240.676.3619 (cell) 757.627.3827 (fax)
