From: Scott.Mowery@noaa.gov To: NODC.DataOfficer@noaa.gov Date: 7 May 2009 RE: USGS Woods Hole Data Working with Ellyn Montgomery, USGS Woods Hole Data Manager, this is one element of the USGS inventory of archived time series data. Data is provided in the basic sample interval and hourly averaged. Variables include currents, temperature, pressure, conductivity, light transmission (beam atttenuation) and others. Time range of the complete series is 1975 - present. I have placed the file GLOBEC_GEORGES_BANK.zip on the incoming FTP site Liaison directory for your retrieval (ftp://ftp.nodc.noaa.gov/pub/incoming/liaison/). The zip file (53 files) includes the complete datasets and supporting metadata / associated files for field activities from the U.S. GLOBEC GEORGE'S BANK CURRENT AND SEDIMENT TRANSPORT STUDIES Field Program to to document the currents and mixing of plankton fields. Measurements include physical data from moored current meters and bottom mounted tripods, and include current, temperature, pressure, and backscatter. The Basic Interval Sampling data is placed in a seperate directory; Field Activity Reports, trip Maps (.png), metadata files, and Google Earth KML files are included in the root directory. The data includes reports for 3 cruises covering the period from May to August 1999. Data is provided from each cruise in the Basic Sampling Interval file. The data is stored in _Net_work _C_ommon_D_ata Format (netCDF) files using the EPIC (_E_quatorial _P_acific_I_nformation _C_ollection) conventions defined by the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. Associated ASCII files and Google Earth KML files are also included. Metadata and KML files have also been forwarded to the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) for inclusion in the Regional Ecosystem Data Management System and climate change baseline assessments. Data submission POC is Scott Mowery, NCDDC Northeast Liaison (scott.mowery@noaa.gov)
