USGS Woods Hole Science Center legacy data attached for adding to the NODC Accessions. --------------------------------------------- Working with Ellyn Montgomery, USGS Woods Hole Data Manager, this is one element of the USGS inventory of archived time series data. Data is provided in the basic sample interval and hourly averaged. Variables include currents, temperature, pressure, conductivity, light transmission (beam atttenuation) and others. Time range of the complete series is 1975 - present. I have placed the file Deep_Circulation_Gulf_of_Maine.zip on the anonymous FTP site Liaison directory for your retrieval. The zip file (57 files) includes the complete datasets and supporting metadata / associated files for field activities from the DEEP CIRCULATION IN THE GULF OF MAINE Field Program, a two year field study to investigate the deep flow between the major basins in the Gulf of Maine. This deep flow of warm-salty Slope water is an important driving mechanism of the residual flow and in part controls the distribution of suspended sediments. Measurements include physical data from moored current meters and bottom mounted tripods, and include current, temperature, conductivity, salinity, and attenuation. The files are organized into seperate directories for the Basic Sampling and Hourly Averaged Data; the remaining Field Activity Reports, trip Maps (.png), metadata files, and Google Earth KML files are included in the root directory. Data is provided at a basic sampling interval dataset and hourly averaged data from each cruise. The data is stored in _Net_work _C_ommon _D_ata Format (netCDF) files using the EPIC (_E_quatorial _P_acific _I_nformation _C_ollection) conventions defined by the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. Associated ASCII files and Google Earth KML files are also included. Metadata and KML files have also been forwarded to the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) for inclusion in the Regional Ecosystem Data Management System and climate change baseline assessments.
