Science Activities: We will conduct about 50 compliance meter deployments and recoveries (similar to OBS). Deploy/ Recover 5 bottom pressure recorders and deploy 20 BPRs for three year deployment. Operations Area: 9-10N EPR 9 15' to 10 30'N, 104 30'W to 103 20'W 2500-3500m about 550nm to first site about 75 stations SSSG Tech: sssg @atlantis.whoi.edu Departure Port: Manzanillo, MEXICO Agent: Primary Agent: Vasile Tudoran Transport 819 Ohio Ave. Long Beach, CA 90804 Contact: Vasile Tudoran tel. We will be using a release lent to us by Rob Evans (WHOI). We have tested the deployment using the R/V Sproul. The BPR instrument looks like a very short mooring (17') and is lowered to the seafloor by hydro wire. The BPR has an acoustic transponder (Edgetech). The wireline deployment will allow us to precisely position the BPRs and to test function at depth before release. The release trips when the instrument reaches the seafloor. The BPR weighs 290 lbs with a 107 lb tripod anchor. BPR work is with Milene Cormier. Lithium Battery packs (25 packs of 30 D size batteries per pack) will be returned to NYC at end of cruise for disposal. Minimum amounts of hazardous material (alcohol and other solvents) Navy Clearance Status: Last Modified: 01/04/2007 Check List: Required?
