Source: These data were received as a DVD-ROM product by S. Phillips, NODC, in June 2010 from Jill Petersen, 
        NOS Office of Response and Restoration. The product contains GIS and associated files, MOSS
	(Multiple Overlay Statistical System) export files, .PDF maps, and detailed user guides and metadata.

This product includes updated and/or modifications of data and consolidates previously released ESI atlases as a DVD product for the 
Gulf of Mexico including Florida.

Original Gulf of Mexico data are available from the DVD digital data release, October 2007, Seattle, Washington titled - 
ESI Atlas, Gulf of Mexico, Alabama 2007, Louisiana 2003, Mississippi 1995, maps and geographic information systems data, 
archived in NODC accession 0036821, http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/accession/0036821.

Original Florida data are available from the DVD digital data release, January 2007, Seattle, Washington titled - 
ESI Atlas, Florida 1995-1997, maps in portable document format (pdf) and geographic information systems data, archived in 
NODC accession 0014187, http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/accession/0014187.

This DVD consolidated Florida data originally released as separate CDs for different regions of Florida 
(NODC accessions 0004150, 0006249, 0006377, 0006394, and 0006539). Data was not updated or modified in the later consolidated DVD release.

Original Texas data are available from the CD-ROM digital data release, 1996, Seattle, Washington titled - ESI Atlas, Upper Texas Coast,

Original Alabama data are available from the CD digital data release, March 2001, Seattle Washington, titled - ESI Atlas

Original Mississippi data are available from the CD digital data release, March 2001 (vs.2), Seattle Washington, titled - ESI

Original Louisiana data are available from the DVD digital data release, November 2004, Seattle Washington, titled - ESI Atlas

Actions: NODC personnel made an ISO disc image file using Sonic CD-ROM/DVD-ROM authoring software, 
         which enables the creation of an exact replica of the entire disc content if appropriate 
         disc authoring software is available. The ISO image file is in data/0-data/disc_image/. 

         NODC personnel copied all data, image, and documentation files from the original disc to 
         data/0-data/disc_contents/. Some of these files may require specific Geographic Information 
         System (GIS) software to properly read and/or display the content of the files. The original 
         disc contents may or may not provide access to software that are appropriate and/or necessary 
         for using these files.
   
         NODC personnel removed all executable files from data/0-data/disc_contents/. In addition, all ancillary files and 
         directories related to the executable files were removed. These files are available from the ISO image file. 

	 As of June 2010, methods for long-term archival for GIS geodatabase files is under review. "Geodatabase" data 
         is an .mxb (ArcGIS project file) backed by an .mdb (Microsoft Access) and an .idb index file. Accordingly, data layers
         and tables for the Florida geodatabase (florida.mdb) were converted by NODC personnel to shapefiles (.shp) and associated
         files (.prj, .dbf, .shx, etc.) for long-term archival purposes and placed in 0064870\data\1-data\disc_content\
         Florida\FL_geodatabase_exported_to_shapefiles. File names duplicate names of layers from the original .mdb file, e.g.,
         "esil" was converted to "esil.shp" and associated files.  

         A PDF/A copy of the release notes was generated and placed in 0064870\data\1-data        


A copy of the original disc provided by NOS may be obtained directly from NOS using the contact information on the disc or
may be checked out to authorized personnel from the NOAA Library system.
