Subject: Bering Strait 2007-2009 Mooring Data submission Date: Thursday, March 18, 2010 2:12 pm From: Rebecca Woodgate To: NODC.DataOfficer@noaa.gov , Rebecca Woodgate Dear NODC, I would like to submit some mooring data to your archives, viz the Bering Strait 2007to2009 mooring data. As there are many files, I have tared the archive, and gzipped it. I have tried to upload it to your ftp site, but the transfer is excruciatingly slow - (estimated time 8 hrs, 2 files each around 300Mb). Is there a way of speeding up the transfer - or is it possible for you to pull them from our ftp site at: ftp://psc.apl.washington.edu/BeringStraitArchive/BeringStraitMooringData/ Two files: BeringStraitMoorings2007to2009IPY_TARversionMar10.tar.gz Seasoftforwaves.tar. (the versions on your ftp pub/incoming are incomplete and can be deleted, including the one prefixed by rw) The first: BeringStraitMoorings2007to2009IPY_TARversionMar10.tar.gz is a gzipped and tared copy of the entire data set. It contains a readme file, which gives meta data and lists all the files. The second: Seasoftforwaves.tar is a tared copy of Seabird Seasoft software for the SBE26plus, which is a bottom pressure gauge, also recording wave information. Since we are only using the bottom pressure information, we have only processed that portion of the data set. Yet, wave data has been recorded, and could be extracted by someone who knew what they were doing, using the seabird software. Thus, it seems right to me that this software should be included with the raw data which are in the archive. I've also attached the readme file here, but it's in the tarred archive too. Please let me know you got these files ok, and if there's any further information you need. The data are also available via our ftp site from: http://psc.apl.washington.edu/BeringStrait.html Thanks for doing this very important community service, Best regards, Rebecca -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr Rebecca A Woodgate Applied Physics Laboratory Tel: (206)-221-3268 University of Washington Fax: (206)-543-6785 1013 NE 40th Street, Seattle Email: woodgate@apl.washington.edu Washington 98105-6698, U.S.A. http://psc.apl.washington.edu/HLD -------------------------------------------------------------------
