Another of the USGS Woods Hole Science Center legacy data attached for adding to the NODC Accessions. --------------------------------------------- Working with Ellyn Montgomery, USGS Woods Hole Data Manager, this is one element of the USGS inventory of archived time series data. Data is provided in the basic sample interval and hourly averaged. Variables include currents, temperature, pressure, conductivity, light transmission (beam attenuation) and others. Time range of the complete series is 1975 - present. I have placed the file Oceanographer_Canyon.zip on the anonymous FTP site Liaison directory for your retrieval (ftp://ftp.nodc.noaa.gov/pub/incoming/liaison/). The zip file (27 files) includes the complete datasets and supporting metadata / associated files for field activities from the OCEANOGRAPHER CANYON DYNAMICS EXPERIMENT Field Program, a field experiment to determine the importance of submarine canyons in sediment transport along and across the continental margin. The experiment included extensive current and hydrographic observations, submersible dives, and sediment surveys. Measurements include current, pressure, temperature, backscatter, attenuation, and salinity. The files are organized into seperate directories for the Basic Sampling Interval and Hourly Averaged Data; the remaining Field Activity Reports, trip Maps (.png), metadata files, and Google Earth KML files are included in the root directory. The package also includes .pdf scans and text files from associated navigation nine track tapes. Data is provided at a basic sampling interval dataset and hourly averaged data from each cruise. The data is stored in _Net_work _C_ommon _D_ata Format (netCDF) files using the EPIC (_E_quatorial _P_acific _I_nformation _C_ollection) conventions defined by the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. Associated ASCII files and Google Earth KML files are also included. Metadata and KML files have also been forwarded to the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) for inclusion in the Regional Ecosystem Data Management System and climate change baseline assessments. Data submission POC is Scott Mowery, NCDDC Northeast Liaison, Tel. (240)676-3619, One Waterside Dr., Norfolk, VA (scott.mowery@noaa.gov).
