Four updates to NMFS zooplankton monitoring program data Todd O'Brien Wed, Jan 10, 2018 at 9:50 AM To: Tim Boyer , Scott Cross - NOAA Federal , Nazila Merati - NOAA Affiliate Hi Tim, I have included Scott and Nazila, but I am hoping you (via Olga or Nazila?) will look at these data first with a cruise overlap check. I strongly suggest that these data are not archived until after Tim/Olga/Nazila/myself go through them a pass or two. I don't expect errors, but if they exist they are probably spectacular (e.g., systematic translation issue) because the database is splitting in two directions at the moment (old/new). Use the web links below to get the data zip files. You will want to use the "full format" data files from each folder. The short format is a subset of the full, and can be ignored. The index.html will give a quick overview of individual cruises and such. Everything (metadata wise) should be in the full data file. The html is only for your visual pleasure. I think you have a conversion program for the full format, as we did this many years back. These four data sets are full replacements for any previous COPEPOD versions you have of them. Differences will exist because of originator corrections and of course new years of data added. Todd FYI: The new "2018 and onward" data format will be a comprehensive row-based format, similar to the short format here but including EVERYTHING. It is easier to plug into "ERDDAP" or most spreadsheet-friendly programs ("R", MapView, Surfer, etc). The old "full format" will go away in the nine months. It was not very popular or immediately usable. CalCOFI zooplankton-dv https://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/copepod/data/us-05301/copepod__us-05301.zip This should be clean. SEAMAP zooplankton-dv https://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/copepod/data/us-05201/copepod__us-05201.zip This should be clean. EcoFOCI zooplankton-dv https://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/copepod/data/us-05401/copepod__us-05401.zip Important: There are two ship codes in the EcoFOCI file that did not have spell-outs. I contacted Janet but she is out-of-office until January 15th. If you get an overlap with them ("EcoFOCI EE" and "EcoFOCI AK"), let me know. I am also not 100% certain that the Oscar Dyson ship was correct (e.g., if you get an overlap with it and a different ship, let me know. EcoFOCI coded it as "DY", and I guess best as possible.) EcoMon zooplankton-dv https://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/copepod/data/us-05101/copepod__us-05101.zip If you are doing focused duplicate checks, I have found that many of the net depths have changed by +/- a meter or so (e.g., 41 meters may now be 42 meters). The NEFSC has cleaned up their database and improved they wire-out depth calculations (e.g., rounding and precision differences). There are SIX ships here without codes. I wrote to two people and and hoping for an answer. Perhaps do this data set last, hoping I will fix it before you get this far. 3/7/2018 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Mail - Four updates to NMFS zooplankton monitoring program data https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=df57497513&jsver=8G3nVnabgk0.en.&view=pt&msg=160e08d5f6720d55&q=todd.obrien%40noaa.gov&qs=… 2/2 -- Todd D.
