Upon completion of the science activities the vessel shall return to Easter Island, Chile, on 6 April 2005. The main scientific research objective is to explore a poorly known global region that might provide historical or present-day connections between major biogeographical provinces in the deep-sea. Science activities planned include Alvin dives; use of Alvin Niskin water bottles, suction sampler; collection of macro-invertebrates, deployment and recovery of crab traps, tube cores. The operations area will be the Southern Pacific Rise in the vicinity of 38DEGS, 110DEGW. Scientific marine research clearance within the exclusive economic zone of Chile has been received but we are awaiting clarification of the dates.
