STATION DATA
- Overview
- Most observation stations record only the value for the observed layer which conforms to the
basic layer defined by IAPSO (International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Ocean).
- Data format
- Japan Oceanographic Data Center FETI format.
You can down load the data with ODV spreadsheet or NetCDF from JODC's Web site.
- Data item and unit
Data Item | Data Unit |
Temperature | Deg C |

Specific volume anomaly (SVA) | 10-8 m3 kg-1 |
Geopotential anomaly (D-DY) | 10-8 m3 kg-1 |
*1 In elder times, salinity means 'absolute salinity'. (unit ‰)
where
- Sigma-T=ρ(s,t,0)-1,000
- D-T=α(s,t,0)-α(35,0,0)
- SVA=α(s,t,p)-α(35,0,p)
- D-DY=104
δdp
- ρ(s,t,p) is the density of seawater at salinity s[PSU], temperature t [°C] and
pressure p [Press].
- α(s,t,p) is the specific volume of seawater at salinity s [PSU], temperature t [°C] and
pressure p[Press].
- δ is the specific volume anomaly (SVA).
