FS Meteor cruise No. 50 (ALexandria-Malaga-Hamburg), 9 Nov. to 13. Dec. 1978.

Please note this is a cruise of the old Meteor, the predecessor of the recent one.

Silica and oxygen: K. Graßhoff, IFM Kiel
Oxygen was measured by winkler titration and silica by an autoanalyser technique


Tritium, helium measurements: W. Roether, W. Weiss

Bottle salinity were measured with a guildline salinometer, temperatures with reversing 
thermometers. Bottle temperatures and salinities were checked against the CTD data.


CTD measurements during the cruise were carried out with the Kieler Multisonde by M. Ihme and 
H. Hinkelmann. (I have no idea were the CTD profiles could be, maybe in the archives of 
the BSH).

Tritium measurements were carried out in Heidelberg by gas counting. Tritium is given in TU
1Tu=10exp(-18) [T]/[H] with [T]=concentration of hydrogen isotope tritium and [H]=concentration of 
hydrogen.


The helium concentrations were measured by mass spectrometry. At the moment I have no idea 
were the data are by I will try to locate them.

We did a preliminary check of the data and assigned a quality flag. The quality flag has 6 
characters (pressure, temperature, salinity, tritium, oxygen and silica). 1 means good data, 
3 is questionable, 4 is bad and 9 is no data.
