Phillips,SSMC3 4701,7133277 127 Source: These data were received by Sheri Phillips via e-mail in March 2008 from Lauri Sadorus of the International Pacific Halibut Commission. Ms. Sadorus requested corrections made to the submitted data as noted: "Greetings Sheri – Hey, I have managed to put the data that I sent to you folks, into Ocean Data View and I’m pretty excited about the lovely pictures that come out of it! Anyhow, that aside, as I was plotting the stations, I found two that had an incorrect latitude. I cross referenced with two other databases to make sure this one was the wrong one and sure enough. Anyhow, could you please correct the latitude for station 1016 (file pro1016_2007.txt) to read 435007 instead of 45. The second correction is to file pro1049_2007.txt and it should read 453987 instead of 46. The rest of the stations all plotted correctly. Second, as I was working with Ocean Data View, I had to do quite a few modifications to the data in order to get it to work. First was assigning a cruise code, the second was converting the lat/lons to decimal degrees using the + and – to denote direction. Would you rather receive future data in this format instead of what I sent you initially? It would be a little more work for us, but should be doable and we want to get it right! J Take it easy, Lauri Lauri Sadorus Biologist International Pacific Halibut Commission (206) 634-1838 ext. 211 lauri@iphc.washington.edu" "…and I’m not sure it’s clear that our lats and lons are degrees minutes decimal, not degrees decimal. So, for example before we took out the decimal place a lat in our database might have been originally written as 4231.07 to denote 42 degrees 31.07 minutes as opposed to 42.3107 degrees." Ms. Phillips deleted the original zipped file that the files were received as, because the zipped files contained the uncorrected files. She saved a copy of the zipped file in her personal directory on users. ******************************************************************************************************************************** 5/28/08 text from e-mail correspondence (S. Phillips, NODC) Hi Sheri – Sorry for the delay. The past couple of weeks we were making the final push to our summer field season and it gets crazy. I looked over the file and it all looks good. We haven’t quite figured out how we’re going to post it on our website yet so we don’t yet have a direct link. I see that the IPHC website in general is up there though and that should suffice for now. Thanks for working so hard on this. Take it easy. If you have made these data available online, if you send me a URL I can add that information to the "Distribution Section" of this metadata record. Other than that, this will be good to go if you are happy with it. Thanks so much! Sheri Lauri Sadorus wrote: Hi Sheri - No problem about the conversion, we do it all the time. The correct coordinates in decimal degrees as you need to have them for the metadata are: Western boundary: -124.9005 Eastern boundary: -124.1667 Northern boundary: 46.3170 Southern boundary: 42.0053 ....and a note about them being degrees, decimal minutes in the file would be great. Thanks, Lauri
