***************************************************************** 2008-04-01 12:41:51 +0000: Journal for accession number: 0040187 Created on: 2008-04-01 12:41:51 +0000 By: Melanie Hamilton, National Oceanographic Data Center Source: Temperature and salinity profile data from globally distributed Argo profiling floats for the month of March 2008 for the Global Argo Data Repository, 1979-05-15 to 2008-03-31 were obtained from the ARGO GTS server (available at the following URL: https://test.nodc.noaa.gov/argo/latest_data.html as of 2008-04-01) by NODC staff for the Global Argo Data Repository (GADR). The U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) operates the Global Argo Data Repository (GADR) as the long-term archive for the International Global Argo Project (for additional information about Argo, see http://www.argo.ucsd.edu/ (last accessed April 2008)). Argo data archived by the US NODC may include real-time and/or delayed-mode profiles of ocean temperature and salinity, as well as related conductivity and/or pressure measurements, collected by Argo profiling floats. NODC began archiving Argo data on a monthly basis starting the second quarter of FY 2003. These data include real-time and/or delayed-mode profiles of ocean temperature and salinity (conductivity and pressure, if any) measured by the Argo profiling floats. The file naming convention used for these data is as follows: yyyymmdd_prof.nc where yyyymmdd is the date the data were transmitted; prof indicates that these are profile data, and .nc indicates that the file is a netCDF file. Additional information about the Argo Project is available at [http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/argo/latest_data.html] (last accessed on Apr 01, 2008). Additional information about the netCDF file format is available at [http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/argo/documents/format2_1/index.htm] (last accessed on Apr 01, 2008). Other files that may be included in this accession: Argo_monthly_readme.txt -- a full description of the containing files are listed, as well as the file structure is explained. netCDF_format.htm -- a GDAC netCDF format description gdac200803.tgz
