I see that Barack is now ahead ; he will have his hands full sorting out the financial mess we are all in Good luck to him ! I have attached a data file "hecla_nodc.bsd" which contains the CTD data that you requested. The data is from Cruise 'HI710' - 12/05/1996 to 19/05/1996 - 16 Observations and Cruise 'Storm Search' - 19/05/1996 to 09/06/1996 - 10 Observations. It is in our BSRD format and a format description attached. Have a good weekend. I have asked our database manager to extract the data and forward it to you. By coincidence the person who made the decision to release the data was on the ship at the time. Maybe that helped ! The Hecla CTD data is important to us because quite a few of the CTDs were dropped concurrently with T5 XBTs. We have the XBT data. If we could get the CTD data, this would be our largest set of concurrent CTD/XBT drops. These concurrent drops are important to investigate the potential XBT temperature (or depth) bias vs. CTD which is a possible large source of error in global ocean heat content calculations. Regards, Tim Dawson Garry wrote: Dear Bob, I hope that you had a good holiday. I'm sorry but I can't help you much with the data that you requested. We don't hold the XBT from JCR JR02 or the XBT from Scotia 0997S. I think you have already asked BODC but, as JCR works down south mostly, it may be worth asking if BODC could check with British Antarctic Survey (BAS). Have you tried George Slesser for the Scotia data ? Concerning the HMS Hecla CTD, this fell just outside of the time limits set by UK MOD for our most recent data release and we have not planned the next one. If this data is of particular interest to Tim I can ask MOD for permission to release it. Some background as to why the Hecla data is useful to you would help me to make a case for its release. I see that your favoured man got nominated as the Democratic candidate for President. Obama looked like a winner to me until the Republicans selected Palin. I certainly wouldn't vote for her (or McCain) but she seems popular with many US voters. It looks close ; I hope Obama wins. This is the kids last blast before beginning school next week. I am still on schedule to retire at the end of the year and have lots to do before then. It is hard to believe that 38 years have gone by, but it it because of friends and colleagues like you that have made it so worthwhile! We look forward to hearing from you when things settle down. Best regards - Bob Dawson Garry wrote: Dear Bob, I'm sorry to hear that we won't have the opportunity to share a beer at ICES ASC ; are you still retiring at the end of the year ? We have just returned from 10 days touring and walking in the far north of Scotland. The weather has been very poor over the last few weeks in southern England but we choose a good year to go north and had some good weather. This was the first year that neither our son nor our daughter came on holiday with us which ( as you will find out sometime soon !) made it a little different to previous years. Have you been away on vacation ? We will look into Tim's query and get back to you in two or three weeks. I hope that this delay won't be a problem but we have lots of people on leave at present. Are you still planning on going to Canada for the ICES ASC? We will not attend this year due to a tighter travel budget. My colleague Tim Boyer, in the Ocean Climate Lab, asked about the availabilty of the next release of UKHO XBT and MBT data. In addition he would like to specifically request the following data: - CTD data from HMS Hecla cruise of June, 1996 - XBT data from the James Clark Ross cruise JR02 Nov 1-Dec. 8, 1992 - XBT data from Scotia cruise 0997S, September, 1997 Best regards - Bob -- ROBERT D.
