Session Directory Server

The session directory server collects multicast announcements from the Multicast backbone, consolidates the announcements on a Web page, and makes them available to clients. The server supports Mbone announcements of type SPD V1, SPD V2, and SGI Radio. Users on hosts running client software can launch announcements from their Web browser. The session directory server is started when the Internet Gateway system starts (the chkconfig sdpd flag is on). To start the server, enter this command:

/etc/init.d/run-sdpd start

The sdr-launch scripts must be installed on client systems for users to ne able to participate in the multicast announcements. To update announcements, users should reload the announcement page.

To stop the session directory server, enter this command:

/etc/init.d/run-sdpd stop
