Dial-out PPP Accounts

This form allows you to modify a dial-out modem account to use PPP on the line. To use this form, you must have already created a modem account (see the Modem Accounts form in the Modems product page). This form changes the /etc/ppp.conf configuration file to set the new PPP parameters.

Use the Dial-out PPP Accounts form to set the following PPP parameters:

Edit Selected Account This list contains the names of dial-out PPP accounts. To change an account, select it and click the Edit Selected Account button to display the Edit Dial-out PPP Account form. When you finish your changes, click the Ok button to put the changes in effect.

(Default value: none)

Connection name: This information field displays the connection name that you selected.

(Default value: none)

Hardware: This information field identifies the type of line used in the connection to the remote system: modem, ISDN, or T1.

(Default value: none)

IP address of local host: This selection shows the address of the PPP connection on the Internet Gateway system.

(Default value: none)

IP address of remote host: Enter the Internet address of the remote system in dotted decimal (such as 1.2.3.4) or hexadecimal (such as 0x01020304) notation.

(Default value: none)

Login name on remote host: Sometimes, two different logins are needed to communicate with a remote system: a dial-in login, which you specify on the Modem Accounts form, and the PPP login, which is required for PPP authentication. Enter the name to be used for PPP authentication.

(Default value: none)

Password on remote host: Sometimes, two different passwords are needed to communicate with a remote system, a dial-in password, which you specified in the Modem Accounts form, and a PPP password, which is required for PPP authentication. Enter the password to be used during the PPP authentication phase.

(Default value: none)

Add default route to remote host: This selection specifies whether a default route should be added to the kernel routing table when this line is activated. If a default route is added, all network packets that are not bound for a local network are sent across the PPP connection.

(Default value: No)

Disconnect when PPP line is idle: Specifies whether the line is automatically activated or dropped when needed. This is useful when system use is sporadic. If you select Yes, the remote system is automatically dialed when there is traffic bound for it, and it is automatically dropped after it has been idle for a reasonable amount of time. (Default value: No)
