Configuring NIS Slave Servers

Slave servers assist in answering requests from NIS clients. Each time that maps are changed, the master server notifies slaves to make local copies of the maps. Any network with NIS clients must have at least one NIS server.

To use this form, complete the entry fields or change the values that the form contains; then, click the Ok button to put the changes in effect.

Enable NIS slave server: This selection turns the slave server function on or off for this host. Select Yes to enable this system to act as a slave server for this domain, or select No to prevent this system from acting as a slave.

(Default value: No)

NIS domain name: This field specifies the name of the domain for which this host will act as a slave server. The domain must be served by the master server that you specify in the NIS master server entry field (below).

(Default value: none)

Hostname of NIS master server: Enter the name or address of the master server for this domain. If you enter an address, use dotted decimal (such as 1.2.3.4) or hexadecimal (such as 0x01020304) format.

(Default value: none)
