Typically, a single master server is responsible for one administrative
domain. This server contains the configuration files that you maintain directly
on the server. Periodically, these files are converted into maps and propagated
to one or more slave servers on the network. To propagate the maps, the master
server must know the name of each slave server.
To use this form, complete the entry fields or change the values that the
entry fields contain; then click the Ok button to put the changes
in effect.
Use the NIS Master Server Configuration form to set these parameters:
Enable NIS master server: This selection turns the master server
function on or off for this host. Select Yes to start serving for this
domain, or select No to stop serving for this domain.
NIS domain name: This field contains the name of the domain
for which this host will act as master server. This is typically key words
concatenated with a period (such as engr.sgi.com), and is frequently the same
as the DNS domain name. Enter a one-word domain name; do not use spaces in your entry.
List of NIS slave servers: This list contains all NIS servers to
which this server will propagate maps. This list can contain hostnames or Internet
addresses in dotted decimal (such as 1.2.3.4) or hexadecimal (such as 0x01020304)
notation. To add to the list, enter a hostname or address and press the Enter
key after each entry.
