You are visiting the home page of Dr. M. J. Varkey, a senior scientist,working here since 1971. Dr. M. J. Varkey having passed M.Sc. in Oceanography, subsequently received his Ph. D. degree in "Bay of Bengal Physical Oceanography", while working at the National Institute of Oceanography(NIO).

Dr. Varkey also holds Diploma in Oceanography for Marine Civil Engineering and has passed a certificate course in statistics.

He has worked in various aspects of Physical Oceanography of the Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal. Worked in some aspects of wind waves in the sea; wave recording, analysis, nonlinearity, etc. Well experienced in time series analysis, computer programming (FORTRAN) and graphics. He is presently working in summer monsoon and tropical cyclones. (altogether more than 30 years in research). He was Head of Physical Oceanography Division during 97-98 and is recognised guide for Ph.D.

He has 30 published papers, 20 technical reports and few popular articles. Dr. Varkey is interested in popular science writing and photography.
