I am M.R. Nayak, Scientist at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa. Born on December 2, 1947 I hold Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in Electronics. I attended couple of summer schools at IIT, Mumbai (Guide : Prof. M. R. Bhujade) , Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (Guide : Prof. B. S. Sonde who is presently Vice Chancellor, Goa University; and Prof. E. S. Rajagopal, presently Director, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), New Delhi) and National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL), Bangalore (Guide : Dr. S. Krishnan who is presently at Raman Research Institute, Bangalore) on Digital Electronics Systems as a National Science Talent Research Scholar, NCERT, New Delhi. I have 5 years of experience in Aeronautical Electronics (Avionics) and 20 years in Ocean Electronics (Oceanics).

I joined CSIR as Jr. Res. Fellow (JRF) at NAL, Bangalore on January 1, 1972 shifted to National Institute of Oceaonography as Scientist on March 10, 1976. Since then I have worked on ocean electronics and lead many projects such as Ocean Data Buoy [with satellite communication] and Drifting Buoys for Ocean Circulation Studies. I have more than 40 research publications to my credit. I had an opportunity of participating in the third Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica led by Dr. Harsh K. Gupta who is currently Director, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad.

I am member of editorial board for journals such as The Global Atmospheric and Ocean Systems (USA) and Journal of Coastal Research (USA). Besides I have been an active member of IEEE Technical Committee on Standards(USA), IEEE Test Technology Technical Committee (USA), IEEE Computer Society Multiple Valued Logic Committee (USA), ROV Committee of Marine Technological Society (USA), and Surface Velocity Programme Committee of WOCE (UK). I am also a Fellow of IETE, New Delhi, India (since 1985) and International Institute of Management Sciences, Calcutta (since 1993). I have been an external guide for M. S. Degree students of BITS, Pilani.

I have Technical experience in Project Planning, Monitoring and Execution, Instrumentation , as well as Computers & Communications (Satellite communications from/to Antarctica).

I have visited Mauritius & Antarctica, University of Hamburg (Germany), University of California (USA), Toulouse (France) and Australia. I am also holding the National Science Talent Search , (NCERT) scholarship given by the Govt. of India.

Presently I am associated with Enabling Systems as an Advisor under the new organisational structure of NIO.
