WELCOME TO HOME PAGE OF DIWAN

Sunil Govind Diwan is a Scientist, in Ocean Engineering Division, at NIO, Goa.
Diwan got his M.Sc. in Physics-wireless and Electronics, M.Tech. in Physical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has also holds Diploma(P.G) in Oceanography, from Trondheim University, Norway.

Diwan began his carrier as a Assistant lecturer in Walchand College of Engg. Sangali, Maharashtra. Soon, after that he got into NIO, Goa as a Senior Scientific Assistant in Marine Instrument and continued for 3 years. He is now working as a Scientist in Ocean Engineering Division in NIO, Goa since last 18 years.

R & D Experience:

Diwan has made outstanding contribution in Developement of Hardware, Software and Interface

Anderaa Weather Station-DL-2700

The software & hardware is developed to interface the 10 bit word ( coming from 12 channel detalogger top end plate ) to EC-8085 microprocessor commercial Board & convert it to RS-232C format. This microprocessor board is interfaced to HP-85B PC. The software developed in PC converts the 10 bit dataword into meaningful weather parameters, like wind speed, wind direction , humidity, air temperature, rain etc. in engineering units. This has applications in remote places, with hostile conditions like salt spray, heavy rains and wind etc & on drilling rig/offshore platform to manoeuvre rig/platform operations.

Developement of real time Anderaa current meter RCM-4/5 data collection system.

It was thought useful to develop a system using Anderaa RCM-4/5 current meter which records ocean current speed, current direction, water depth, conductivity, temperature when moored ( In taught mooring with viny float set on top of the current meter) near the offshore platform and get real time data by hard wire underwater cable connected to electrical adapter at the top end plate of the RCM-4/5. ( O to 5 volts signal). This signal is inverted through operational amplifier & interfaced to EC-8085 commercial board, which inturn interfaced to HP-85B PC. The EC-8085 board & PC is housed in a cabin on oil drilling rig/platform, where 22 V. AC mains power is available.

Technical Experience:

His technical experience includes upgrading the equipment, RCM-4/5 of M/s Aanderaa instuments, Norway were upgraded to RCM-7/8 using advanced technology. His prime responsibility involves upkeeping of instruments by rectification of problems in electronic circuits, servicing, calibration and main maintenance of sophisticated equipment like Datawell wave measuring equipment, current meters RCM-4/RCM-5/RCM-7., interocean S-4, WTGS-4, Aanderaa WLR-5 etc.
All this equipments are used in Indian waters off east and west coasts of India, in near shore or offshore areas.
Diwan had been also associated with the job of operating/collecting all season reliable data on waves, currents, nearshore sea bed patterns, tides and meteorogical parameters at desired locations using imported sophisticated equipments, which is of immense use for coastal/ocean engineering projects.

Visits to Foreign Countries

Diwan has made a visit to Trondheim University, Norway for Six months, M/s Aanderaa Instruments, Bergen for one week, M/s Datawell bv Netherlands for one week and Mauritius also.
