Mr. Ramesh Babu V. is Senior Scientist, presently working in Physical Oceanography Division. Born in Andhra Pradesh, did his B.Sc. in Physics & Chemistry from Andhra University, also holds Masters Degree in Meteorology & Oceanography from the same University.

He has over 25 years of Research experience.
Experienced in research and management of scientific projects dealing with different aspects of physical oceanography (Large-scale Circulation; Air-Sea Interaction, Environmental Impact Assement; Remote Sensing Applications) of the Indian Ocean. Published about 60 scientific papers and institutional reports covering research work on these topics.
Participated in several scientific cruises on board the Indian research ships RV GAVESHANI and ORV SAGAR KANYA; Swedish ship MV THULELEAND and Russian ships RVAKADEMIK KOROLEV & MV AA SIDORENKO and served as chief
scientist in some of these cruises.
Involved in the collection of hydrographic data by using various physical oceanographic equipment (Nansen Bottle Cast, C/STD, XBT, MBT, Current metres, Wave recorder,
Thermosalinograph etc.).
Member of 7th Indian Antarcica expedition team during austral summer 1987-88 and carried out studies on water mass structure of the Indian Ocean sector of the Southern Ocean and heat budget investigations of a coastal polynya off Dronning Maud Land coast of Antarctica.
Served as guest faculty member of the Department of Marine Sciences, Goa University (India). Delivered lectures and conducted practical classes for M.Sc (Marine Science -
Physical oceanography specialisation) students of this university.
Involved in various training programmes of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa in which trainees from within the country as well as from developing countries were exposed to different fields of physical oceanographic (air-sea interaction; Large-scale circulation etc.) studies of the institute.
Presently working in the projects dealing with Environmental Impact Assessment studies of the Central Indian Ocean Basin for poly-metalic nodules mining; INDOEX (Indian Ocean Experiment) Studies; Inter & Intra-annual variability of physical (temperature, salinity & density) parameters based on NIO hydro-archive.
Future plans are to involve in Indian Climate Research Programme (ICRP) which is aimed to improve our understanding on monsoon climate changes.
His visits abroad:
Visited Bangladesh ( Dakha) during 11 January-19 February, 1982 to participate in the winter workshop on Monsoon Dynamics.
Visited Russia (Moscow) during 4 April-26 June, 1989 to carry out hydrographic data analysis of Monsoon-88 Experiment, under Indo-USSR collaborative programme in oceanology.
Visited Thailand (Bangkok) during 10-21 June, 1991 to participate in the workshop on Marine Applications of ERS-1 satellite data.
Visited U.K (Plymouth and Liverpool) during 25 March-3 October, 1994 as a British Council Study Fellow under "Climate Change" programme.
Visited Russia (Gelendzhik) during 23-30 January, 1996 as a part of Indian delegation to discuss Indo-Russian cooperation in Environmental Impact Assessment Studies for Polyme
tallic Nodule mining in Central Indian Basin.
