Welcome to my page. I am Dr. Arvind Gajanan Untawale, Scientist at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, India. Born on June 26, 1940, I completed my graduation (B.Sc.) in Botany from Nagpur University in 1964 and Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in 1966. I was awarded Ph.D. in Botany from the same University in 1972.

I joined NIO in 1973 and today rose to a level of Dy.Director and Advisor in this premier oceanographic institution of the nation. During past two and half decades, I worked on various areas of coastal and marine biodiversity, such as resource evaluation of marine algae, ecobiology and restoration of marine algae, marine fungii, structure and dynamics of mangrove ecosystem, coastal environmental impact assessment, coastal vegetation, remote sensing, structure and dynamics of sand dune vegetation, coastal biodiversity, biosphere reserves, marine protected areas, marine parks, etc.

I have been nominated member of many academic, professional and research bodies/commitees and organisations such as International Society of Mangrove Ecosystem (ISME), National Academy of Sciences, International Society of Plant Ecology, Mangrove Society of India, etc. I have also been appointed as a member of Board of Studies in Botany by universities such as Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Goa University, Goa and Amraoti University, Amraoti. I have served on many experts committees of Department of Environment & Forest (DoEn), New Delhi, Department of Ocean Development (DOD) New Delhi and Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi etc.

Awards and fellowships such as FNASc, FBS, FAT, FTE and FSB have been conferred on me during my 25 years of profession as Scientist. I have visited many countries, ecosystems in the world.

Socialising is my hobby and I like to eat sweets a lot. I live in Goa alongwith my daughter Priya and son Ashish.
