I am working in NIO, Dona Paula, Goa , as a Scientist E1.

I got Ph.D in 1989 at University of Bombay with Applied Biology subject. I have taken M.sc degree in 1971 at Aligarh Muslim University with Zoology subject.

I have worked as Research fellow at Central Marine Fisheries, Cochin with research in marine biology, as a Junior Scientific Assistant at NIO, Goa with research in Biological investigation, as Senior scientific Assistant participating in R&I work and cruises, as Scientist'A' carring research in biology division and participated in the projects of the institute, as Scientist 'B' participating in the R&D work of marine biology, Scientist 'C' participating in R&D programme developement of marine aquaculture technique planning, as Scientist 'E1'

I am having 20 years research experience in marine biology and biological oceanography of the seas around India. My research includes assessment and evaluation of benthic productivity, living resources, aquaculture and marine environmental impact assessment.

My Contribution and Achievements:

My contribution in the field of biological oceanography and marine biology is my work on ecology and production of benthic organisms. I have completed mapping of benthic standing crop of the shelf region of Indian coast. Such maps are useful in estimating the potential demeral living resources. Benthic community of specialised ecosystems such as estuaries, lagoons, seagrasses, salt marshes and deep sea have been done by me. I have also contributed to the assessment other living resources such as molluscs, crabs and fisheries.

Working on the responses of benthic organisms to various types of pollution, I have identified indicator organisms of organic pollution and mining activity. This can be immense help in identifying and monitoring such pollution in the estuaries and semi-enclosed water bodies.

I was instrumental in the development of technique of mussel culture in India. Our raft culture technique has been proved to be the best method for the cultivation of videly grown mussel. I have also developed the technique of cage culture of fishes. These technique have been accepted b the fish farmers in goa and Andaman & nicobar Islands. I have spent some time in short course training in aquaculture to fish farmers.

I am angaged in the coastal zone management programme and have worked on different problems of oil pollution and environmental impact assessment. I have successfully completed various pollution projects for which technical reports are prepared. These reports are helpful in descision making in the private and government sector.

I have participated in a number of oceanographic cruise to Indian and International waters and have handled various oceanographic equipments. I have also led cruises. Besides R & D institutional work, I have also been working in the bilteral projects and national areas.

I have published over 80 scientific papers in reputed National and International journals and several technical reports.
