Survey & exploration for the seamount cobalt crusts in selected parts of the northern Indian Ocean to assess the potential of the crusts for cobalt metal Detailed geochemistry ,structural analyses and dating of the representative crusts to establish the paleo-OMZ, paleo productivity influence on the crust genesis and growth. Foram stratigraphy and climatic variations recorded in the sediment cores collected from areas in the viccinity of the seamounts to nderstand the effect of topographic high. Bio-geochemistry of the sediment cores to evaluate the organic matter accumulation over a time period and to assess the paleoproductivity and paleoenvironments on the nature and distribution of biogeochemical markers To study the microbial production rates and biomass in the typically oligotrophic equatorial Indian ocean water column.
